Mr. Marshall Henry Beard, 95, of Taylorsville, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Beard was born on July 27, 1923 in Catawba County, the son of the late Herbert Henry Beard and Ora Lail Beard.
He had worked as a supervisor and foreman in shipping at Hickory Manufacturing for 35 years and was self-employed with his son Michael at Kool Park Upholstery until his retirement. He was an avid horseman all of his life.
He was a US Army veteran, who served in 385th AAA Battalion during the World War II conflict in Europe. Marshall received a total of nine medals including the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Marshall was a faithful member of the local Post 48 American Legion for over 72 years.
Marshall was an active charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in Hickory for 26 years.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: two grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Eckerd, Georgia Shell, Willie Mae “Bill” Propst, Rebecca Starnes; brothers, Harvey Beard, Boyd Beard, Robert “Bobby” Beard, Jerry Beard, Eddie Beard, and Blace “Pluto” Frye.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Judy Rose Beard of the home; daughters, Sandra Beard Phelps and husband, Jack, of Hickory, Marsha Barrs of NY, Janeen Rawlings and husband, Mike, of TN; sons, Barry M. Beard and wife, Jane, of Sanford, Michael D. Beard and wife, Retha, of Hickory; step-children, Sandy Thornton of GA, Bonnie Wilkins and husband, David, of NC, Jeffrey R. McDermott and wife, Cori, of NC, Christopher Alan of NC; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 307 Main Avenue Drive, Taylorsville, NC 28681 with honors accorded by American Legion Post 48. Rev. David Daly will officiate.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
