Mary Arlene (Rector) Elder

            Mrs. Mary Arlene Rector Elder, 73, of Paul Payne Store Road, Stony Point, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Gordon Hospice House.

            Mary was born October 27, 1946 in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Clarence Columbus Rector and Vivian Faye Bostain Rector.

            She was a school teacher and was employed with the Catawba School System for 42 years, where she taught English and Social Studies. She was an active lifetime member of Marvin United Methodist Church.

            She enjoyed reading and watching Westerns on TV. She loved to cook especially making cookies. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren and always enjoyed her little dogs.

            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, Clarence “Sonny” Rector and Lt. Col. Larry “Joel” Rector.

            Those left to cherish her memory include: her husband of 49 years, Esker Eugene Elder; her daughter, Kellie Kristin Elder Marlowe and husband, Shawn, of Hiddenite; her grandchildren, Willa Mae Marlowe and Pyper Dae Marlowe.

            The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 at Marvin United Methodist Church. Pastor Anne Tavenner will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

            The family will receive friends from 1–2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
