Bessie Lee Black, age 80, of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Bessie was born June 1, 1945, in Iredell County, the daughter of the late Roy Shoemaker and Adeline Cook Shoemaker.
Bessie was a seamstress for most of her working career for Hunters Brothers and Zimmer. She was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church and also attended Liberty Baptist in Iredell County. She loved sports, coaching soccer and football. She loved her family and spending time with them.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Hack Shoemaker.
Those left to cherish and honor Bessie’s memories include: her sons, Jeff Black (Allen) of Statesville, Dorson Black of Statesville; her grandchildren, Moriah, Dylan, Devan Black; seven great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Shoemaker; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Daniel Milton and Pastor Roger Holland will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.
