Betty Lou (Parker) Barnes

            We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty Lou Parker Barnes. Betty, age 83, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her home. She was born on April 23, 1941, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Frank Parker and Louise Combs Parker.

            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gaither Barnes; her sister, Linda Fox and brother-in-law, Ralph Fox; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Evelyn Barnes.

            Those left to cherish and honor her memory include: her daughter, Tammy Marlowe (Keith) of Taylorsville; her son, Jeffrey Barnes (Rita) of Taylorsville; her grandchildren, Anthony Marlowe of North Wilkesboro, Maegan Galliher (Ethan) of Statesville, Bria Marlowe of Atlanta, GA, Candace Heffinger (Brandon) of Raleigh, Kristin Richey (Kevin) of Bethlehem, Kelsey Barnes (Dustin Pennell) of Taylorsville; her great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Kara Richey, Roslyn and William Heffinger, Beau and Finn Galliher.

            She was a poultry farmer for over 40 years. In her free time, Betty loved gardening, tending to both flowers and vegetables. She loved sharing her vegetables with family and friends. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she took pride in creating delicious meals for her family and friends. The memories created around the dining room table will forever be cherished.

            Betty also treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in spending time with her family. Each year she took her grandchildren to Mrytle Beach, SC. One of Betty’s greatest joys was taking her grandkids shopping. In her later years, she found great pleasure in watching her great-grandchildren play together on her porch. They brought smiles to her face.

            As we mourn the loss of Betty Lou Parker Barnes, we find solace in knowing that she is at peace. We will forever carry the memories of shared meals and moments spent together as a testament to the love she had for us all.

            The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Tim Jolly officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

            Anthony Marlowe, Ethan Galliher, Kevin Richey, Brandon Heffinger, Wesley Fox, and Bradley Fox will serve as pallbearers.
