Carol Ann Matheson, age 89, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at her home.
Carol was born November 30, 1935, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late R.Z. Matheson and Beatrice Coleman Matheson.
Carol graduated Taylorsville High School in 1954, UNC Greensboro with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1957 and Appalachian College with a Masters’ Degree.
Carol proudly served in the United States Navy between 1962-1964. Carol obtained the rank of Lieutenant and did her officers training in Newport, Rhode Island and was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Affairs in Washington DC. Carol was a Home Economics teacher and administrator in California, Subic Naval Base in the Philippine Islands and in Alexander County.
Carol was of the Christian faith and enjoyed her animals; horses, dogs, and cats. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, which she made lots of quilts, loved teaching others to quilt.
Those left to cherish and honor Carol’s memories include: her sister, Reita Bryant of Taylorsville; her nephew, Zachary Bryant; her great nephews, Harrison Bryant and wife, Tabby, Colin Bryant; and numerous beloved cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Paul Sink will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
