Charles Edward Baker, aged 82, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He was born June 13, 1941 in Alexander County to Vernon and Nell (Childers) Baker. He was a proud resident of Taylorsville and a 1959 graduate of Hiddenite High School. Charles loved his family coming second only to God. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, fishing, tinkering with his Pontiac, and supporting his beloved Atlanta Braves, Carolina Tarheels, and Ford Racing. He was a deacon and choir member of Hiddenite Baptist Church where he faithfully served the community and was loved and adored by his church family. He married the love of his life, Carol Bruce Baker, on September 1, 1962. He worked throughout Iredell and Alexander Counties as a truck driver, concrete and furniture worker, but retired from his work family at Piedmont Wood Products in 2006. His kind and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who met him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years and three daughters; Pamela Baker Black and husband Lee of Claremont, NC; Angela Baker Chapman and husband Doug of Shady Shores, TX; and Teresa Baker Riddle and husband Greg of Taylorsville, NC. Nine grandchildren: Justin Black (Katie), Jaclyn Bruno (John), Jared Black (Jackie), Alex Riddle (Kendall Moses), Hunter Riddle, Olivia David (Rusty), Caroline Chapman, Lizzy Au (Nick), and Jennifer Chapman. Seven great-grandchildren: Walker and Bowen Black, Kane and Harper Cox, Beckett Bruno, and two baby girls on the way.
