Dillon D. Patterson, age 93, of Hiddenite, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury.
Dillon was born September 1, 1931, in Alexander County, the son of the late William Allie and Florence Lola Gwaltney Patterson. He lived on the farm with his family and attended Hiddenite High School and helped the family farm their land. After graduating from Hiddenite High School, he joined the United States Air Force and served for 22 years, serving mostly in the Far East. Retired and returned to Alexander County serving the county with his gospel music ministry. Also, upon graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Lucille “Luci” Warren on November 26, 1950.
Dillon was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He loved horses and the outdoors. At Dillon’s request his wife Luci’s ashes will be placed in his casket and buried with him.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Marjorie Lucille “Luci” Warren Patterson and 10 brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish and honor Dillon’s memories include: his daughters, Shari Corgan (Ron) of Florida, Tereasa Skinner (Ron) of Hickory; his grandchildren, Shawn Corgan (Rebecca), Shayne Suarez (Jandro), Shaylyn Spath (Robbie) all of Florida, Ron D. Skinner (Ashley), Randy Skinner (Sandra) all of Hickory; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Bunton (Lenoard) of Statesville; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Shady Grove Church in Hiddenite. Pastor Ron Corgan will officiate. Music by Ron Skinner. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard.
