Elizabeth "Sid" Hammer

            Elizabeth “Sid” Hammer, age 97, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was born September 6, 1925, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late AY Stoney Burke and Ollie Colvert Burke.

            She was a homemaker and loved every minute of it. She was a lifetime member of Beulah Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her garden and loved helping others, and bringing people to church, helping with meals on wheels. But most of all she enjoyed her family and traveling with her friends.

            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry Hammer; a son, Harold Hammer; a daughter-in-law, Martha Hammer; three grandchildren, Harold Joel Hammer, Ramie Smith, John Hammer; her sisters, Mary Lou Wike (Joe), Margaret Elder (Jay); her brothers, Bud Burke (Jeanette), Woodrow Burke (Wilma).

            Those left to cherish and honor her memories include: her daughter, Debbie Hammer; her son, Tommy Hammer (Margaret); her grandchildren, Jesse Hammer, Jarrod Hammer (Angel), Joshua Smith, Jeff Hammer, Steve Hammer (Diana), Heather Smith; her great-grandchildren, Evan Elder (Taylor), Maddox, Hagen, Payton, Macey, Chelsea, Allison, Madison, Katie, Josie, and Colton; her great-great-grandchildren, Riley, Paislee, Teagan; a special niece, Alene Keller; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

            The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Beulah Baptist Church. Rev. Allen Fox will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery.

            The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

            Jarrod Hammer, Joshua Smith, Jesse Hammer, Evan Elder, Barry Waddell, Colton Hammer, Hagen Smith, Steve Hammer, Jeff Hammer and Maddox Hammer will serve as pallbearers.
