Gary Bentley Obituary

            Gary Smith Bentley, age 77, of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at his home.

            Gary was born October 5, 1947, in Alexander County, the son of the late Smith Howard Bentley and Elsie Childers Bentley.

            Earlier in his working career he worked in the furniture industry and then from 1994-2011 worked for the Alexander County School System as a mechanic. He was a member of Shinning Light Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He began with the Sugar Loaf Fire Department in 1976 and served as Captain for10 years. He enjoyed fishing and eating especially Mary’s cooking. He liked tinkering with almost anything.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his sisters, Marie Sprinkle and Ruth McLain.

Those left to cherish and honor Gary’s memories include: his wife, Mary Miller Bentley of the home; his sons, Todd Bentley (Crystal) of Alexander County, Mark Bentley (Tina) of Troutman, Jeff Bentley (Sandra) of Alexander County; his grandchildren, Samantha Bobbitt (Ackzle), Matt Hager (Bethany), Zachary Hagar, Brittny Turner (Casey), Johnathon Bentley, Dixie Sigmon (Brandon), Ashlyn Gordon (Matt), Amy Bentley, Josh Bentley (Alexa), David Bentley; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; his sister, Irene Lewis (Willard) of Hickory; his brother, Ray Bentley of Alexander County; his brothers-in-law, Conley Mecimore, Ralph Miller; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends;

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Shinning Light Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Mike Cothren will officiate.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alexander County Hospice and his family that took special care of him.
