Gary Gales Johnson, age 78, of Hiddenite, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Gary was born August 5, 1946, in Iredell County, the son of the late James Gales Johnson and Pauline Adams Johnson.
Gary proudly served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam Era. He was a truck driver and a poultry farmer. He attended Mt. Vernon and Pisgah Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, riding motorcycles, and farming. Most of all he enjoyed his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish and honor Gary’s memories include: his wife of 57 years, Evelina Millsaps Johnson of the home; his daughter, Amanda Fox (Andy) of Statesville; his grandchildren, Alex Fox, Ashley Shook (Hunter), Addison Fox; his great-grandchildren, Hallie Drew Shook who is arriving soon; his sisters, Joyce Mayes of Statesville, Sandra Phillips (Doc) of Statesville, Gloria Joines of Hiddenite, Lisa Shaver (Gene) of Olin; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Pisgah Methodist Church. Pastor Matt Harold will officiate and Pastor Sheridan Stanton graveside service. Burial will follow in the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers include: Andy Fox, Alex Fox, Hunter Shook, David Johnson, Donald Marlowe, and Warren Miller.
