James “Jimmy” Odom Barlow, age 72, passed away on Sunday January 28, 2024, after a brief illness at Atrium Health in Lincolnton.  Jimmy moved to Denver, NC in 2021 but spent the majority of his life as an educator all over Alabama. Jimmy was a phenomenal teacher, coach, principal, and headmaster.  Everyone knew and loved Jimmy for his friendly smile and outgoing personality.

He was also an avid outdoorsman and worked as a guide at Lanark Nature Center after retiring from the school system. He had a deep love for kayaking the Sepulga River and spent a lot of time there throughout life.

Jimmy graduated from McKenzie High School and received his teaching degrees from Auburn University and Alabama State University. 

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Debbie Barlow, of Denver, NC; daughters, Jami Sikes (David) and Ashley Brock (Jeff); son, Brian (Jennifer); son-in-law, William Agee (Connie), daughter-in-law, Ginger Agee; brother, Steve Barlow (Ramona), and his most valued treasures….his grandchildren, Maddie Sikes, Bowden Sikes, Reagan Wild, Charlie Brock, Mary Trainham Brock, Hunter Earnest, Taylor Earnest, Mason Agee, and a multitude of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at 2 pm. at Brushey Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama. There will be a reception following the service to talk with friends and family of Jimmy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jimmy’s honor to Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Jami Sikes). He supported this ministry and would be thrilled to know this will be fund scholarships for students to FCA Camp and to help start an FCA Outdoors Ministry in the South Central Alabama FCA Area.
