James Donald Durmire, Jr., age 80, of Hiddenite, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Alexander County,
James was born March 31, 1944, in Alexander County, the son of the late James Donald Durmire, Sr. and Lola Faye Smith Durmire.
James served in the US Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was a truck driver for over 36 years. He was a handy man, a man that was always willing to help those in need and loved his grandchildren.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Brown, Brenda Deal; his brothers, Clyde Durmire, James Garland Durmire, James Edward Livengood.
Those left to cherish and honor his memories include: his wife of over 57 years, Lydia Jean Revis Durmire; his daughters, Shelby Stewart (Donnie) of Statesville, Cindy Durmire of Hiddenite; his sons, Donnie Sherrill (Tonya) of Statesville, Robert Preston Durmire (Nancy) of Knoxville, TN; his grandchildren, Brandon Lee Hill (Katie), Ericka Horne (Cameron), Loren Stewart, Holly Walker (Josh), Cassandra Durmire (Matthew Johnson), Nick Doreo; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Stan Durmire (Carolyn) of Hiddenite; brother-in-law, Jimmy Deal; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Jean Durmire, Nancy Livengood; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Hiddenite Baptist Church. Pastor Wes Hammer will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. prior to the service.
