James H. Sweet, age 80, of Taylorsville, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at his home.
James was born November 9, 1943 in Alexander County, the son of the late William Lloyd Sweet and Minnie Ellen Starnes Sweet.
He worked in the furniture industry, Walker Chainsaw and as a mechanic for Alexander Trucking. He was a member of Millersville Baptist Church, where he served in the graveyard ministry for many years. He was a volunteer Fireman for the Wittenburg Fire Department for over 50 years. He was a family man that loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his brothers, Burley Sweet, and Earl Sweet; and one infant brother, Paul Sweet.
Those left to honor and cherish his memories include: his wife of 57 years, Lois Morgan Sweet; his son, James Bradley Sweet (Tammy) of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Erik Dustin Sweet, Caleb Matthew Sweet (Megan), Kalia Sweet Shumate (Adam); his great grandchildren, Abigail, Piper, Madilyn, McKinley; his brother, Charles Sweet (Annie) of Conover; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Millersville Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Orren and Pastor Brian Kerley will officiate. There will also be a private memorial service at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
