John F Palinkas, Jr.

            John F. Palinkas, Jr. age 85, of Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Valley Nursing Center.

            John was born May 6, 1936 in Corning, NY, the son of the late John F. Palinkas, Sr. and Alice Elizabeth Hovey Palinkas.

            He was a graduate of Northside High Class of 1954 in Corning, NY and graduated Alfred State College in 1956 with a degree in Engineering. He was a US Army National Guard veteran, who served at Fort Dix. He retired from Ingersoll Rand after 42 years in 2001. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. He was affectionally known to all as Pop Pop.

            John was an avid collector of Civil War swords and muskets. He loved the circus, trains, photography and was a dog lover. He was a member of North South Skirmish Association, Circus Historical Society, and Circus Fans of America. He and his wife loved to square dance. John loved to travel; traveling to Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and several states. He got to travel to Churchill to see the polar bears twice and also attended three Boy Scout Jamborees.

            Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife who he married on July 9, 1966, Joan Marie McChesney Palinkas and passed on June 25, 2014; his brother, Donald Palinkas.

            Those left to cherish and honor his memories include: his daughter, Kelly Anne Vogel (Chip) of Campbello, SC; his son, John Palinkas III (Sherry) of Statesville; his grandchildren, Noah Ian Palinkas of Hiddenite, Jordan Pucci of Concord, Zackary Vogel of Landshut, Germany; his great-grandchildren, Makenzie Pucci, Bryson Pucci, Mia Vogel; his brother, Alan Palinkas of Pennyan, NY.

            Memorials may be made to the Polar Bear International or the Humane Society.

            The family will do a memorial service at a later date.
