It is with great sadness that we announce that Kathleen Mary O’Cianain, 73, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, peacefully in her room at Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation, Taylorsville, North Carolina. She was the first daughter of Catherine Frances Keenan and James Edward Keenan, with three younger siblings: Eileen P. Keenan, James P. Keenan, and Noreen A. Roubian. She is survived by her two daughters, Judy E. Burkett and Susan L. Fransman, and her grandchild, Trent G. Warthen.
Kathleen (“Kim” to her family) was much loved by family and friends, although she would always say, “I love you more.” Her strong sense of independence, intelligence, compassion, creativity, and endless generosity made her truly unforgettable. Kathleen was not only a daughter, a sister, and a mother; she was an artist, a decorated veteran of the US Army, a nurse, a Master of Psychology, a lifelong student of anything and everything, and a lover of animals, particularly cats and rabbits. Kathleen was incredibly generous with her time, knowledge, and resources. She donated frequently to charities, including St. Jude, Doctors Without Borders, many animal shelters, and veteran organizations. But perhaps the most precious thing she gave was her boundless love and belief in something beyond this life. Now she has all the answers, and we know that will have delighted her.
The world seems dimmer without her, and we will miss her terribly. She left us with her love and the lessons she shared throughout her life, and because of that, she still feels close. Farewell for now, “Kim,” Mom. We love you, and we know you loved us more.
No services are planned.
