Leo Mayberry Obituary

Mr. Leo Herbert Mayberry, age 84, of Taylorsville, a beloved family man, entered into his heavenly home on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Leo was born February 24, 1941, at his home in Alexander County, the son of the late William “Bill” Mayberry and Hessie Barnes Mayberry.

After graduating high school, Leo was drafted by the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Era in Berlin, Germany for 17 months. He then went on to be a master carpenter, building many homes, buildings, and chicken houses in Alexander and surrounding counties. He loved to work and build things. He was a simple man who enjoyed watching Westerns and playing golf which was one of his favorite hobbies.

Leo was a longtime member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, and gave his soul to the Lord in his early years. He will be remembered for his kindness; he was always a gentle soul. He was a humble, caring, and giving person who tirelessly sacrificed for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him and until we meet again on those golden shores, he will be remembered and cherished.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Phil Mayberry and a sister, Marilyn Mayberry.

Those left to cherish and honor his memories on this earth include: his wife of 59 years, Mary Alice Little Mayberry of the home; his daughter, Alisha Stamey (Steve); his son, Ryan Mayberry (Tracy); his four grandchildren whom he cherished so deeply, Sierra Hayes, Ridge Stamey, Caroline Mayberry, Connor Mayberry; his siblings, Luke Mayberry, George “Coyte” Mayberry, Sylvia Sigmon, Peggy Gant (Harry); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2025, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church. Pastor Kevin White and Pastor Taylor Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Liledoun Baptist Church Cemetery.
