Linda Jane Mayer Sweet, 81, of Newton, North Carolina passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. Born on August 2, 1943, in Indiana, the daughter of the late Emanuel Charles Mayer and DeaJane Mayer. Linda graduated from Riviera Beach High School in Riviera Beach, Florida, in 1961. She enjoyed a successful career, working for National Rental Car in Florida before retiring from Ithaca Industries in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
Linda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Jerry Sweet, and her sister, Judith Mayer Walsh. She leaves behind a cherished family, including her sister Billie Casale and Billie’s children, Timothy, Janet and Janene as well as her brother-in-law, Jesse Walsh Jr. and his children, a step-son & step-daughter, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a special bond with step-nephew and niece, Randy and Sheila Sweet. In addition to her cherished family, she leaves behind an abundance of special people who she was so fortunate to have in her life such as Danny & Sandy, Gloria & Eugene, Chuck & Carol, Rick & Linda and the list goes on and on . . .
Beyond her career, Linda's creativity shone through her passion for canning, baking, gardening and crafts when she was not out fishing or on the golf course with Jerry. She was known for creating personalized greeting cards and gifts, bringing joy to those around her. Linda's dedication to service extended beyond her faith and church to her community. She volunteered with Hospice-Carolina Caring and for many years, brought smiles to families and patients at Catawba Valley Medical Center's gift shop. Linda loved going on cruises with her husband and family and will forever be remembered as someone who was friendly, kind, giving, loving and who loved to share a good story.
A viewing and service will be held at St. Paul's Reformed Church, 3562 Startown Road in Newton on Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 am. Pastor Rob Helton and Pastor Rick Crotts will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Memorial Park Cemetery.
