Lois Anne (Briscall) Smithwick

          Lois Anne Briscall Smithwick was born in 1937 to a family in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, where her father owned a business. She grew up in Canada and attended Canadian schools through grade 13. In Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada Lois attended a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed. After graduation Lois, having dual citizenship, joined the U. S. Air Force, where she met and married Luke G. Smithwick. After discharge, Lois worked in Atlanta three years before the family move to Florida.

          In Florida, Lois worked in several volunteer organizations including Sunday school teacher, “Meals-On-Wheels”, and an organization for visiting elderly shut-ins. Throughout her life, she was dedicated to helping others less-fortunate people. After retirement, the family moved to Wilkesboro, NC. Lois enjoyed a very happy life in Wilkesboro, owning two horses and serving as a volunteer at the local hospital for several years. In December of 2021, she suffered a debilitating stroke, from which she would never recover. Luke James (sons) moved both Luke, Sr. and Lois to his home in Austin, TX, where Lois took up residence in a local nursing home. She passed away October 15, 2023.

          A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Salem Lutheran Church in Taylorsville. Rev. Reed Shoaff will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
