Lowell Thomas Hendren

Mr. Lowell Thomas Hendren, 86, of Moravian Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center, surrounded by his family.     

Lowell was born on September 13, 1936 in Wilkes County to Clarence Jehu and Zella Tevepaugh Hendren.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent, deacon, church clerk and Sunday school teacher.  Lowell was a lifelong apple grower, expert tractor driver and owner of Lowell Hendren Orchards in the Brushy Mountain Community. He proudly served the community as a Charter member and Fire Chief of the Brushy Mountain Fire Department for 22 years. Lowell loved and was proud of his family and grandchildren. Lowell enjoyed a good fox hunt, hearing his dogs run a good race.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii during the Vietnam era. 

Lowell is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Donald, Max, and John Hendren; sisters, Gladys Campbell, Betty Rufty, Janie Reid and Martha Childers

Lowell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Hopkins Hendren of the home; daughter, Kimberly Caudill and husband, Rodney of Moravian Falls; sons, Barry Hendren and wife, Kathy of Weaverville, Joel Hendren and wife, Jessica of Traphill; sisters, Libby Oliver of Stony Point, JoAnn Powers of Oak Ridge, Sally Moore of Moravian Falls; brothers, William Hendren of Greensboro, Roger Hendren of Moravian Falls; grandchildren, Ashley Hendren and fiancé, Bill Boggs, Nathaniel Caudill, Adalynn Hendren, Brooke Johnson, Brandon Riddle; great-grandchildren, Marley Riddle, Miles Riddle; sister- in-laws, Rhoda Hendren of Moravian Falls, Elrea Hendren of Wilkesboro and many nieces and nephews.   

Mr. Hendren will lie-in-state at 1:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9th 2022 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church 7930 Brushy Mountain Road Moravian Falls, NC 28654. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends following the burial. 

Rev. Vincent Adams and Rev. Jonah Parker will be officiating.
