Marie R. Price Obituary

Marie R. Price, age 100, of Church Road, Taylorsville, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at her home. She was born in Alexander County, June 3, 1924, daughter of the late Walter Zeb and Lucy Sipe Price.

She graduated from Taylorsville High School (1941) and Clevenger Business College. For more than 50 years Marie served her community as secretary at Friendship Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member. As Church Secretary, she played an integral role in administrative tasks and daily operations. Her no-nonsense approach, dedication to perfection, and witty sense of humor created a lively workplace and drew people to her. Everyone could always count on Marie.

Beyond her professional capabilities, she valued education, exploring and recording family genealogy, and maintaining her independence. These values inspired others to pursue their dreams, to remember the importance of family, and to not be afraid to take risks to achieve their goals.

Marie enjoyed reading for knowledge and pleasure and playing cards in a rook club, a passion that many learned from her, including the desire to win. Marie was a role model for her family and community and led by example in her kindness, openness to different points of view, and supportive nature. Her longevity meant that she had many lasting and endearing friendships.  Marie always looked forward to a visit or a call and conversations with her were delightful.  Marie will be missed by family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Levi, Roy, Clifford, Willard, Raymond, and Jay Lee Price and two sisters, Vertie Eckard and Leona Price. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families who will cherish memories of Marie.

A celebration of life service and burial, officiated by Pastor Josh Tucker, will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Friendship Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends in the Family Life Center following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to Rusha Austin Scholarship Fund c/o Friendship Lutheran Church, 5300 Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681, or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd, Statesville, NC 28625.
