Mark Randall Gilreath, age 90, of Hiddenite, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Gordon Hospice House.
Mark was born December 7, 1933 in Alexander County, the son of the late James Cleveland Gilreath and Grace Dean Kerley Gilreath.
He was a brick mason by trade and a member of Linney’s Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and raising cattle. He was a neighbor to all and loved his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his little dog Friskie.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Elizabeth Ann Campbell Gilreath; five brothers, Doras, Boyd, Edsel, Jack, and Robert “Bob” Gilreath; five sisters, Mildred Smith, Dorothy “Dot” G. Harrington, Lucille G. Lovette, Margaret Jean Mountcastle, Betty G. Smith, and Joan G. Sykes.
Those left to cherish and honor his memory include: his daughter, Lesia Barkley (Fred) of Taylorsville; his son, Mark “Chuck” Gilreath (Debbie) of Hiddenite; three sisters, Alice Robertson of Taylorsville, Mittiena Johnson of Charleston, SC, Bonnie Osmer (Fred) of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Will Barkley (Brooke), Katie Gilreath, Katelyn Gilreath (Matt), Emma Barkley, Savannah Bapties; his great-grandchildren, Willow, Analeise, and Payton; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Shady Grove Cemetery, 160 Shady Grove Cemetery Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636. Pastor Curt Miller will officiate.
The body will lie-in-state from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home.
