Mildred (Daniels) Echerd

            Mildred Daniels Echerd, age 93, of Taylorsville, passed away at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Newton on Monday, May 24, 2021. Mildred was born March 25, 1928 in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Lilliard and Maude Daniels. She was raised in the Sugar Loaf community with her older sisters, the late Margie Daniels and the late Clara Daniels Thomas.

            In 1958, Mildred married Lynn Echerd and they made their home in Ellendale where she would live for the next 62 years. Mildred left her job at Modern Cleaners after the birth of her only child, Lisa, in 1964. In the late 1960’s, the Echerds started the business that became Country Carpets, serving the county for the next four decades.

            Mildred retired from the business in the late 1990’s and thoroughly enjoyed her much earned retirement years. She used her gift of design to decorate her home and created flower gardens. Mildred was always stylish, witty, and charming. She loved to shop, travel with Lynn, ignore the cautions of her daughter and boss around her son-in-law.

            Lynn passed away in 2017. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Lisa Echerd, and her son-in-law, Lenny Fincher of Taylorsville. Those left to cherish her memory include the large extended Echerd family, many friends and most people who crossed her path.

            A graveside service will take place at St. Luke Lutheran Church on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends in Mildred’s garden at her home in the Ellendale community following the service.

            The family wishes to thank the staff at Elmcroft in Newton for their genuine love and compassionate care of Mildred during the last year of her life.
