Naomi Rowe, age 80, passed away May 23, 2025 at her residence. She was born on January 31, 1945, to the late Rev. James Calvin and Vertie C Rowe.
She was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church from her youth. Naomi graduated from Happy Plains High School in 1963. She worked for a number of years at Holly Farms and Schneider Mills before entering the field of education with Alexander County Head Start. In her 14 years there, she touched many children’s lives and loved working with them.
Naomi was very active in her church. She served as a Sunday School and Baptist Training Union teacher for many of years and led children’s worship each Sunday. She was on the kitchen committee as well as chairman of the planning committee at St. John. She was very active in the Alexander County Union also, serving as president, special worker and chairperson of the One Day District Conference. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking & baking for them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Lou Rowe, Rev. W. N Rowe, Sue Grinton, Lucy Little, James P Rowe, Mary Saner and Rev. John C Rowe.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sisters, Mildred Ferguson, Jeanette Suddith, and Margaret Rowe. Her brother, Rev. C E Rowe, a niece who was raised as a sister, Althea Horton, sisters-in-law Shirley Rowe and Priscilla Rowe. She will also live fondly in the memories of a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at St John Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 2 p.m. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the St John Baptist Church cemetery. Rev T.E Martin and Rev. James Ferguson will officiate.
