Phyllis Jane Burke

            Phyllis Jane Burke, age 88, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at her home.

            Phyllis was born March 21, 1937, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late John Henry Burke and Juanita Deal Burke.

            Phyllis was a phone operator and later an office worker for Southern Bell before retiring. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for 62 years and was a Sunday School teacher for the ladies’ class for many years. She loved her family, church, and gardening.

            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by: her brothers, Hansel Burke and wife, Judy, Charles Burke, Rhondal Burke; beloved friends, Louise Harrington, Betty Barnes, Evelyn Mullis.

            Those left to cherish and honor Phyllis’s memories include: her brother, Alvin Burke and wife, Becky, of Taylorsville; her nieces, Sarah Tammro and husband, Brian, Ramona Burkhart and husband, Bruce; her nephew, Shane Burke; her great-nephew, Brett Burkhart and great-niece, Rebecca Burkhart.

            Special friends remaining: Loree Millsaps Childers and Selena Harrington.

            The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Rev. Tim Jolly will officiate and Rev. Lander Heafner will conduct graveside. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
