Phyllis "Polly" (Davis) Heafner

On September 16, 2024, Phyllis “Polly” Davis Heafner, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her husband and children. 

She was born on December 26, 1940, to the late Jesse and Elsie Davis in Iron Station, NC.

Throughout her life, Polly was active in several churches, being a faithful and dedicated minister’s wife for 44 years.  She served on the NC State Baptist Convention Board as well as being active in the North Carolina Minister’s Wives Association.  She retired from the Avery County School System and enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her family.  Polly was an avid Duke fan and loved attending high school sporting events.

She was preceded in death by brothers Clinton, Johnny, Clyde, Earl, Leon, and Jesse Jr., sisters Olivia, Dolly, and Eula, son-in-law Keith Elder, father-in-law and mother-in-law Lander and Letha Heafner, and sister-in-law Linda Houser.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lander Heafner, Jr., their children Donna Millsaps (Danny), Carol Rogers (Mark), Shelly Elder, and Jesse Heafner.  Grandchildren, Josh Rufty (Michelle), Adam Millsaps (Natalie), Lydia Gwaltney (Aron), Landa Tevepaugh (Lynn), Daniel Millsaps (Katelyn), Victoria Rufty (John), Jessica Rogers (Chet), Dustin Rogers, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Dean Davis, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tommy and Beth Heafner, special friend Brenda Hicks and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Josh Rufty, Adam Millsaps, Daniel Millsaps, Aron Gwaltney, Jon Greene, and Lynn Tevepaugh.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home.

The family will hold a private graveside service.  Pastor Tim Jolly will officiate.
