Rev. Stephen Wayne Parks, AKA “Bubble Gum Preacher”, age 74, of Stony Point, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born April 1, 1948 in Iredell County, the son of the late Claude Edwin Parks and Irene Houston Parks.
He was a US Army veteran and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. He pastored Pleasant View Baptist Church for 11 years in Mt. Airy, Sulphur Springs Baptist Church for 22 years in Hiddenite, and Mt. Hebron Baptist Church for 5 years in Taylorsville. He loved singing for the Lord with his family and with the group 4 His Glory. He was an avid Tarheel fan and loved meeting with his coffee buddies every morning. He also enjoyed doing yard work, wood working in his shop and playing Yahtzee.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers, Edwin Parks and Ronald Parks; nephew, John Harmon.
Those left to cherish and honor his memories include: his wife of 51 years, Shelia Davison Parks of the home; his daughters, Stephanie Parks Gantert (Michael) of Taylorsville, Stacy Parks Capps (Michael) of Stony Point; his grandchildren, Stephen Paul Gantert, Evan Wesley Gantert, Cory Lee Brown (Sara), Kirstie Banks (Josh), Erica Brown (Justin); his great-grandchildren, Grace Gantert, Abel Gantert, Peyton Payne, Koraline Brown; his sister, Carolyn Harmon (Chester) of Statesville; his brother, Larry Parks (Margaret) of Statesville; special friends, Tommy and Sharon Shelton; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Mitch King and Rev. Robert Gragg will officiate and special comments by Rev. Bradley Anderson and Rev. James Safrit.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.
