Mr. Richard G. Long, age 84, of South Holden Road, Greensboro, went home to his Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Davis Regional Medical Center.
Richard was born May 3, 1935 in Catawba County, the son of the late Gaither Long and Beatrice Smith Long.
He was a US Army veteran and a member of Logan Presbyterian Church in Scotts. Richard had worked as a machinist in the furniture industry. He enjoyed playing checkers and working on cars.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Catherine Dye Long; a sister, Betty Long Poole.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Eccolia Long of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Long-Holt of Denver, CO, Cynthia Rivers of Philadelphia, PA; a son, Ulysses Long of Statesville; grandchildren, Demetria Rivers, Andrea Meaux; a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Adams Funeral Home with full military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard. Chapel. Rev. Phillip McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in the Logan Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 2-2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
