Ruth Jennette (Atwood) Sturgill

Mrs. Ruth Jennette Atwood Sturgill, 77, of North Wilkesboro, passed away on Wednesday, May, 18, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center.

Ruth was born on October 11, 1944 in Craven County to Hazel Cox Atwood and Sarah Sophina Darnell Atwood.

She trained mobility assistances service dogs for those in need.  She enjoyed studying the Bible and cooking.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert Sturgill Jr.; son, Rick Lee Sturgill; brothers, Glenn and Paul Atwood.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Jerry Atwood of West Jefferson; grand daughter Shandi Sturgill of Wilkesboro; nephew, Bobby Atwood of Alabama and her special mobility assistant dog, Lacey. 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105
