Walter Lee Hines, Sr., age 87, of Taylorsville, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Walter was born May 2, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of the late Benjamin James Hines and Virgie Payne Hines.
Walter worked in the textile industry for most of his working career. He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved his family and friends. He was a member of the Stony Point Masonic Lodge #593 for over 50 years and a member of the Shriners Organization.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Evelyn Watson Hines; a daughter, Judy Hines Davis; his sisters, Martha Jean Hines Smith, Mary Margaret Hines, Ruth Goff, Grace Doern, Ruby Davis; his brothers, Leonard Hines, Ben James Hines, Jr., Paul Hines and Dalton Hines.
Those left to cherish and honor Walter’s memories include: his wife, Orene Barnette Hines of the home; his son, Walter Lee Hines, Jr. (Tammy) of Taylorsville; his son-in-law, Billy Davis of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Joel Davis (Angie), Josh Davis (Morgan); his great-grandchildren, Chandler, Carson, Sam, and Jack Davis; Booger Miller who was like an older son; and a number of nieces, nephews from Taylorsville, Hiddenite and Kannapolis.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, August 3, 2025, at White Plains Baptist Church. Pastor Jarred Moody, Pastor Tony Daniels will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. prior to the service.
