Willie Neil “Cat” Bennett, age 69, of Hiddenite, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Willie was born July 10, 1954 in Alexander County, the son of Florence Bennett Wilson.
Willie was educated at Happy Plains School and worked in the logging industry and also for Tyson Foods. He was a faithful member of Zion Chapel AME Zion Church. He loved to fish, play horse-shoes, working in his yard, and helping his Moma.
He was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents; brothers, Samuel Bennett, Clarence Bennett; brothers-in-law, Robert Blount, George Hoover; his grandchildren (twins), Kenyae and Kendrae Mathis; and a host of uncles and aunts.
Including his mother, those left to cherish and honor his memory include: his son, Ronnie Christopher Bennett (Kristina) of Hickory; his daughters, Connie Trinette Bennett of Hickory, Alisha Wannet Bennett of Claremont, Shauntel Nicole Bennett of Statesville;; mother of his children, Wanda Linney Bennett; his sisters, Frances M. Blount of Taylorsville, Betty Bennett of Statesville, Eartha Hoover of Statesville; his brother, Jonathan M. Bennett, Sr. of Statesville; his aunt, Willie Mae Bennett; his grandchildren, Jalen Dashwn Bennett, Ishmal Rochea Clark (Stephenie), Aryell J. D. Clark, Romel L. Bennett, Tee Aira S. Bennett, Larenz M. Bennett, Breshania F. Bennett, Quantay J. Brown, Raeshaun E. Brown, Rashauna S. Brown, Mr. & Mrs. Maurtice & Erin Bennett, Alaysha Bennett; his great-grandchildren, Jephiyah Dembe’ Clark, Grazlin Douglas, Giannis Murphy, Zola Zoohlub-Kai Clark, Arnold Yehoshua-Ntse Clark, Baylee C. Bennett, Bralyn K. Bennett, Brennyn S. Cook, Chloe Lewis, Kendraya B. Mathis, Ke-Ayla B. Mathis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Home-Going Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024 in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robin Curry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Chapel AME Zion Chapel Cemetery in Hiddenite.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service.
